Marshfield junior Luke McCann was one of six unanimous first-team selections, and one of seven Tigers to earn all-conference recognition for the all-WVC boys soccer team.

McCann was the Tigers’ top scorer this season, helping Marshfield to an 8-3-1 record in the Wisconsin Valley Conference and a third-place finish in the standings.

Senior goalkeeper Mathias Holm, and juniors Ben Simon and Klaus Friedli were second-team selections, and senior Leo Steiner, and juniors Alec Hinson and Hunter McManus were honorable mention choices for Marshfield, which finished 11-7-3 overall and reached the WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinals.

“As an attacking mid, I was expecting the assists but Luke was able to capitalize on his scoring opportunities also and ended up second in conference for total points (goals and assists),” Marshfield coach Steve McCann, Luke’s father, said. “It’s nice to get the recognition from all the other conference coaches.

“Klaus is a great athlete and he had a strong season. His focus and drive were excellent. He was dangerous coming out of the defensive end helping our offense. Ben came in as a first-year varsity player and secured a starting position. He was assigned the task of shutting down opposing teams best players and did an outstanding job for us and was recognized for this. Mathias had a tremendous season for us. He was second in save percentage in the conference and tied for the most saves in conference – several big ones for us.”
