ANTIGO – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Senior American Legion baseball team opened its 2016 season with a doubleheader sweep of Antigo on Saturday. The Blue Devils won 9-2 and 9-8.
Bobby Pilz had two hits and three RBIs in the opener for Marshfield. Jack Donahue earned the win on the mound, striking out seven and walking two in five innings.
Trevor Schwecke also went 2-for-3, and Nate McDonald and Hunter Luepke each scored twice for Marshfield.
The Blue Devils came back from a 5-1 deficit to win Game 2 behind a five-run fifth inning.
Jared Klein, Jason Kurth and Nate McDonald had RBI singles in the rally for Marshfield. Kurth also hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
Hunter Korger earned the victory with 5 2/3 innings of relief.
The doubleheader began a four-day road trip around the state for the Blue Devils. Marshfield is at Ash-Port for a twinbill on Sunday and at La Crosse on Monday before opening Wisconsin Valley Legion League play Tuesday at Plover.
