Marshfield Senior Legion drops road game at Plover

PLOVER – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 American Legion senior baseball team was held to four hits and dropped a 4-1 decision to Plover in its Wisconsin Valley Legion League opener Tuesday at Memorial Field.

Plover scored once in the second inning and Marshfield tied it with a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Jared Klein that scored Mitch Susa.

The game remained 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth, when Plover scored four times with the help of a Marshfield error and a pair of hits.

Trevor Schwecke suffered the loss for the Blue Devils (4-2), allowing the three runs (one earned) in two innings of relief.

Marshfield had the tying run at the plate with two outs in the top of the ninth, but Plover ended the game with a ground out.

Marshfield hosts Stevens Point at 7:15 p.m. Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.
