MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals amateur baseball team ran their record to 2-0 on the young season by quickly dispatching an over-matched Tomahawk team 12-0 in seven innings Friday evening at Marshfield’s Jack Hackman Field.

The Chaps have outscored their opponents 18-1 and have yet to yield an earned run in their two games.

Austin Littman led off the game with an infield hit and came around to score an unearned run on a throwing error by the catcher and the Chaps were off and running, leading 1-0 after an inning.

Tomahawk starter Fletcher Schoone showed a wild streak in the second, walking lead-off man Luke Wirtz. After Nate MacDonald reached on a fielder’s choice, Lucas Messerschmidt walked. MacDonald and Messerschmidt pulled off a double steal with another Titans’ error, and designated hitter Noah Panzer was drilled with a pitch. Littman lifted a sacrifice fly to center scoring MacDonald and Justin Rayburn lashed a run-scoring single to right scoring Messerschmidt, giving the Chaps a 3-0 lead.

Jack Donahue was lights out on the hill for the Chaps. The only glitch came in the fifth when the Titans had a pair of hits and he yielded his only walk of the night. He shut down the threat a batter later with a strikeout. Donahue pitched seven strong innings, giving up just three hits, while striking out four.

“Jack did a nice job of getting ahead in the count and working from there,” Rayburn, the Chaps’ player/manager, said. “He kept the ball down and really pitched well.”

The Chaps got two more in the fourth with an RB I single by Riley Erickson to make it 5-0.

They broke it open in the fifth putting up a six-spot, which included RBI singles by Panzer and Erickson to make it 11-0.

Caden Schillinger drove in MacDonald who led off the sixth with a double to provide the final score of 12-0.

“In the past two games we’ve really played clean defensive ball,” Rayburn said.

Littman, Rayburn, Erickson and MacDonald all had two hits for the Chaps, with Erickson driving in three runs.

The Chaps travel for the first time this season when they go to Wausau for a game Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
