MARATHON – Stratford’s Matt Zuelke and Auburndale’s Danica Harrison repeated their performances from last week’s Pittsville Invitational, winning the boys and girls races, respectively, Thursday at the Marathon Cross Country Invitational.
Zuelke edged Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Matthew Easker by 8 ½ seconds, winning the boys varsity race in a time of 17:18.3.
Harrison ran away with the girls race, finishing in a time of 15;41.8, 36 seconds ahead of Three Lakes’ Kathryn Pamperin.
The Marathon boys won the team title, with Auburndale finishing second despit three top-eight performances.
Luke Haas (17:52.3) was third, David Hass (18:11.7) took sixth and Aaron Swenson (18:59.3) finished eighth for the Apaches.
Stratford was third as a team. Tylyn Hoover (19:42.7) had the Tigers’ next best performance behind Zuelke’s win, taking 13th.
The Auburndale girls were third and the Stratford girls were fifth overall.
Sam Karl posted a top-10 performance for the Apaches, finishing in eighth with a time of 17:18.3, and Emma Steines (18:20.1) was 11th.
Stratford was led by Rachel Adank’s 12th-place run, finishing in a time of 18:43.6.
Auburndale will participate in the Marshfield Invitational on Tuesday. Stratford returns to action Sept. 9 at the Medford Invite.
