Spencer volleyball drops 3-2 heartbreaker to Owen-Withee

SPENCER – The Spencer volleyball team began its Cloverbelt Conference season Tuesday, dropping a grueling 3-2 decision to Owen-Withee.

Spencer lost the opening game before coming back to take a 2-1 lead. However, the Blackhawks rallied with a pair of dominating victories and won the match 25-11, 23-25, 26-28, 25-18, 15-7 in the Cloverbelt East Division opener for both teams.

“It was a hard way to open conference,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “We played hard. We just had some trouble receiving a few of their servers. Now we have an idea of what it will take to win the Cloverbelt East and our regional.”

Courtney Schulz led the Rockets (7-3 overall) with 14 kills and two service aces. Marcie Hebert added seven kills and four blocks, Kylie Esser had 18 assists, Kyleigh Hebert had 13 assists and Dani Johnson had 28 digs for Spencer.

Spencer plays at Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Thursday.
