LODI – The Spencer/Columbus Catholic wrestling team came into Saturday’s Lodi Team Tournament undermanned, but left with a number of great individual performances.
The Rockets lost all four of their dual meets, but had a three undefeated wrestlers in Ashton Ackman, Carson Hildebrandt and Logan Zschernitz.
Spencer/Columbus had to forfeit five weight classes in each dual and lost to Evansville 54-21, Holmen 51-21, Lodi 42-32, and Janesville Craig 54-24.
Zschernitz, the No. 1-ranked 285-pounder in Division 2, won the marquee matchup of the night against Janesville Craig’s Keeanu Benton as Benton quit with an injury midway through the second period. Zschernitz won his other three matches by pin to improve to 26-0 this season. Benton came into the match 34-0 with 31 pins and a No. 1 ranking in Division 1.
Hildebrandt (160 pounds) earned three pins and a technical fall, and Ackman won two matches by major decision and another by technical fall for the Rockets at 120.
Treyton Ackman finished 3-1 at 113 for Spencer/Columbus, with one pin and two major decisions.
Holmen won all four matches to take the tournament team title.
Spencer/Columbus is back in action Thursday with a nonconference meet at Wautoma.
