MARATHON – Stratford rallied from a five-run deficit to take the lead, but couldn’t hold on as Marathon scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh and snuck away with an 8-7 win in a battle of Marawood Conference South Division leaders on Tuesday at Marathon High School.

Both teams entered the game unbeaten in the Marawood South and the game lived up to the billing.

Marathon (6-0, 5-0 Marawood South) scored five times in the bottom of the second to take a 6-1 lead before the Tigers (7-2, 4-1 Marawood South) rallied to tie the game with five runs of their own in the fifth.

Stratford went ahead with a run in the sixth before Marathon rallied to snag the win with two runs in the bottom of the seventh against Tigers’ reliever Dawson Moen.

Moen, Colten Schillinger, Devyn Palmer and Lance Heidmann each had two hits, and Schillinger drove in three runs for the Tigers.

Kole Kaldunski drove in two runs for Marathon.

The two teams will meet again Thursday at Stratford.
