SPENCER – The Spencer softball team split a Cloverbelt Conference East Division doubleheader with Colby/Abbotsford on Tuesday at Spencer High School.

Colby/Abby won the first game 1-0 before the Rockets earned the split with a 10-5 victory in Game 2.

Spencer is now 7-8 overall and 6-5 in the Cloverbelt East. Colby/Abbotsford moves to 3-8 overall and 3-6 in the conference.

Colby/Abbotsford pitcher Kallie Falteisek was dominant in Game 1, shutting out the Rockets on six hits and one walk. She struck out seven to earn the complete game win, and delivered the lone RBI of the game.

Elexa Post had two of Spencer’s six hits.

In Game 2, Spencer was able to find a way to start hitting Falteisek, knocking her out of the game after four innings.

Spencer clubbed 16 hits, including four doubles, to win going away.

Tiffany Meinders struck out nine and walked one to earn the complete-game win for the Rockets. She also had a pair of hits and an RBI.

Shaelee Neitzel had a single, two doubles, and three RBIs to lead the offensive attack for the Rockets.

Aryiah Schuh also had three hits and scored twice, and Cassidee Widmann and Chailey Robinson each had two hits for Spencer.

“Colby/Abby has some great athletes on their team,” Spencer coach Laschel Canfield said. “Their shortstop, (Vanessa) Lopez, just shut us down the first game. Luckily, our bats came alive the second game to get us ahead early and we kept the momentum.”

Both teams return to action Thursday. Spencer is at Marshfield Columbus Catholic, while Colby/Abbotsford will play first-place Gilman at Colby High School.
