Marshfield Junior Legion baseball goes 4-0 to win Antigo Tournament

ANTIGO – The Marshfield Post 54 Junior American Legion baseball team remains undefeated this season after going a perfect 4-0 to win the title at the Antigo Junior Legion Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at Kretz Park.

Marshfield beat Gladstone (Mich.) 7-4 and Tomahawk 10-2 on Saturday, and took down Oshkosh 7-2 and Chippewa Falls 16-10 on Sunday, moving its season record to a perfect 11-0.

Chase Higgins earned the win in both games on Saturday, allowing one run in 2 1/3 innings against Gladsone and throwing two scoreless innings against Tomahawk, both in relief.

Nick Urban was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, and Logan Homolka had two doubles and two RBIs in the win against Gladstone.

Urban started the game on the mound, allowing three runs in 4 2/3 innings. Marshfield rallied with two runs in the fifth to tie the game and scored three times in the sixth to pull out the win.

Against Tomahawk, Riley Bauman hit a home run and drove in three runs, and Homolka had three hits, including a double and a triple, and scored twice for the Blue Devils.

Mason Pavloski earned the win against Oshkosh with three strikeouts in three innings. Homolka struck out six in three innings of relief, and Higgins earned the save with a scoreless seventh.

Parker Weik had three hits and three RBIs, and Bauman, Homolka, Ky Swanson and Higgins each had two hits for Marshfield.

In the wild final game against Chippewa Falls, the Blue Devils took a 5-0 lead after two innings only to see Chippewa Falls rally to tie the game with a five-run third.

After Marshfield scored three times in the bottom of the third, Chippewa Falls plated four runs in the fourth to take a 9-8 lead.

The Blue Devils tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth, then blew it open with a seven-run fifth and held on from there.

Urban went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs, and Bauman and Carsten Jirschele each had three hits and two RBIs for Marshfield in the win.

Adam Zee, Higgins, Weik and Swanson each added two hits for Marshfield, which had 20 hits in all.

Marshfield is off until Wednesday when it plays a doubleheader at Plover starting at 5:30 p.m.
