MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Chaparrals amateur baseball team had little go right for them Wednesday night at Jack Hackman Field, dropping a non-league game to the Plover Pterodactyls 11-0 in seven innings.

After playing the ‘Dacts three weeks ago, one thing was constant for the Chaps – they got just five hits in each game, and while they scored a pair of runs in the first game, this time they were blanked.

Starting pitcher Connor Jasurda gave it the old college try but when Plover chipped at him for three runs in the third and two more in the fourth, his time on the hill was to be short-lived.

Player/manager Justin Rayburn clearly had the upcoming schedule in his head when he sent Kyle Westhuis to the mound to start the fifth.

Starting this Friday at Rib Lake, the Chaps will play five games in six days, the first four being Dairyland League games.

That being said, Westhuis battled gamely, sporting a sharp breaking curveball, but the long-time outfield probably hadn’t seen the mound in a while and Plover racked up a four spot in the fifth on three consecutive bases on balls.

Two more in the sixth provided enough runs for the Chaps to go meekly into the half-mooned July night.

Centerfielder Nate McDonald, a never-used pitcher, showed his pitching chops by striking out a pair in the seventh.

Other than McDonald’s rare appearance on the mound, the only real bright spot for Marshfield was first baseman’s Hunter Korger’s night at the plate. The Marshfield native came up just a homer short of the cycle. Hitting in the nine spot he tripled, doubled and singled in his three at bats providing the Hillers’s True Value Hardware crowd at least a few reasons to cheer.

As aforementioned, the Chaps next game will be Friday night at Rib Lake at 7:30 p.m.
