Marshfield has five medalists at Marshfield Columbus Catholic Cross Country Invitational

MARSHFIELD – Five Marshfield runners earned top-15 medals as the Tigers opened up their season at the Marshfield Columbus Catholic Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Wildwood Park.

Twenty teams competed in the meet with team scores decided by division.

Stillwater (Minn.) in Division 1, Baldwin-Woodville in Division 2 and Stevens Point Pacelli in Division 3 won team titles for the boys, while Whitefish Bay (Division 1), Baldwin-Woodville and Chequamegon (Division 3) were the girls team champions.

The Marshfield girls finished second and the boys were third in Division 1. Columbus Catholic took eighth in the girls Division 3 standings, while the Dons’ boys only had four runners and did not figure in the team race.

Joseph McKee finished second in 16:18.4 and Joshua McKee was third in 16:28.9 to lead the Marshfield boys and earn meet medals. Noah Lundeen of Hudson won the boys race in 16:14.9, four seconds ahead of Joseph McKee.

Henry Hoerneman was 17th (17:18.1), Addison Hill took 30th (18:06.4) and Evan Ellis finished 40th (18:35.6) to round out the scoring for the Tigers.

Andrew Scheer finished 67th in 19:58.6 to lead Columbus Catholic.

Bridget Flannery of Whitefish Bay won the girls 5-kilometer race in 19:40.1, six seconds ahead of teammate Kealan McNally.

Eliana Kanitz took fourth to lead the Marshfield girls, finishing in 20:24.3. Michaela Dick took eight in 20:40.0 and Bailey Mueller was 14th in 21:26.5 to also earn medals for the Tigers.

Kairi Kim took 16th (21:37.0) and Meghan Jaeger was 17th (21:43.8) as well for Marshfield.

Janelle Haupt was the Dons’ top runner, finishing 53rd in 25:35.7.

Marshfield will be off until Sept. 10 when it hosts its annual Marshfield Tigers Invitational at Frey Field in Spencer.

Columbus Catholic will be at the Loyal Invitational on Tuesday before competing at the Marshfield Invite.
