Medford sweeps team titles, Spencer fifth in each at Mosinee Cross Country Invitational

MOSINEE – Medford swept the boys and girls team titles, and Spencer was fifth in both team chases at the Mosinee Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday.

Medford’s Franny Seidel won the girls 5-kilometer race in 20:45.4, 17 seconds ahead of teammate Alicia Kawa, who was second. Edgar’s Marissa Ellenbecker took third in 21:22.7.

Mosinee finished second in the girls standings with 51 points behind Medford’s 36. Rhinelander was third with 64 and Spencer fifth with 130.

Medford also had a nice grouping to round out its scoring group, as its next five runners finished eighth through 12th. Ellee Grunwald was eighth (22:25.6), Jennifer Kahn ninth (22:27.8), Paige Brandner 10th (22:38.8), Brooke Rudolph 11th (22:44.3) and Alexis Fleegel 12th (22:45.8).

Emily Werhman took 24th in 24:38.8 and Kaylee Wehrman placed 37th in 25:54.1 to lead the Spencer girls.

Eric Kordus of Mosinee won the boys race in 17:23.4, 33 seconds ahead of Medford’s Joseph Sullivan.

Medford had three others finish in the top nine to take the boys team title with 35 points. Mosinee was second, Rhinelander third and Spencer fifth.

Austin Shaw finished fourth in 18:43.8, Conner Carbaugh took seventh in 18:46.7, and Logan Searles was ninth in 18:52.6 for the Raiders. Medford’s fifth runner was Kyle Petrick, who was 13th in 19:55.7.

Spencer’s top five runners were grouped together, finishing between 28th and 33rd.

Ashton Ackman took 28th in 21:36.0, Cameron Neiman was 29th in 21:37.4, Treyton Ackman finished 30th in 21:37.6, Caleb Rucker was 31st in 21:43.3, and Malachai Anderson was 33rd in 22:26.8.

Spencer’s next meet is Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Marshfield Invitational, which will be on its home turf at Frey Field in Spencer.
