STRATFORD – Athens had four runners finish in the top 11 to win the boys team title by just two points over Stratford on Tuesday at the running of the Stratford Cross Country Invitational at the Tiger Stadium Complex.
Johnathon Nowacki won the 5-kilometer boys race in 15:57.7 and Andrew Hartmann was third in 17:06.9 to lead the way for the Bluejays, who finished with 39 points.
Stratford was second with 41 thanks to top 10 finishes from James Heeg (second, 16:56), Andrew Chapel (fourth, 17:09), Caden Bruesewitz (ninth, 18:20), and Isaac Thompson (10th, 18:26).
Spencer finished fifth with Caleb Rucker leading the way, taking 36th in 21:07.
Behind race winner Serena Moore (20:51.1), Prentice won the girls team title with 46 points, five better than Rhinelander.
Stratford was third with 59, Athens fourth with 71 and Spencer fifth with 124.
Abby Van Rixel of Athens finished second in 21:28.8 and Elizabeth Van Rixel was fourth in 22:06.1 for the Bluejays.
Stratford had two top-10 finishes. Lauren Kraus took fifth in 22:14 and Lydia Golbach was ninth in 22:52.
Emily Wehrman was 21st in 24:31 and Kaylee Wehrman took 27th in 25:37 to lead Spencer.
Spencer and Stratford will both compete at the Smiley Invitational on Saturday at Tribute Golf Course in Wausau.
