Auburndale boys basketball wins opener at Tomahawk

TOMAHAWK – Auburndale clamped down on Tomahawk in the second half to pull past the Hatchets 72-53 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Tuesday night at Tomahawk High School.

The game was the season opener for both teams.

Auburndale led 36-33 at halftime before pulling away in the second half, allowing just 20 points.

Cooper Weinfurter was 9-for-11 from the field and 8-for-8 at the free throw line to score a team-high 27 points for the Apaches. Hunter Wright added 18 points and seven rebounds, and Fletcher Raab scored 13 points for Auburndale.

Auburndale opens its home and Marawood Conference South Division schedule on Dec. 3 against Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
