EDGAR – The Auburndale boys basketball team needed three overtimes to keep its perfect record intact.
The Apaches outscored Edgar 17-2 in the extra periods to win 66-51 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday night at Edgar High School.
Auburndale improves to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Marawood Conference South Division, while Edgar falls to 2-2 and 1-2 in conference play.
Edgar led 29-20 at halftime before Auburndale rallied to tie it and force overtime. Each team scored two points in the first overtime, and neither team scored in the second, sending it to a third OT. The Apaches dominated the final extra four-minute period 15-0 to pull away.
Auburndale had a rebound layup go in at the buzzer of the second overtime, but it was waved off.
Cooper Weinfurter had a three-point play to start the third OT and the Apaches were able to put the game away at the free throw line.
Weinfurter finished 21 points and eight rebounds, Hunter Wright added 20 points, and Schuyler Gilhausen had 14 points for Auburndale. Both Weinfurter and Gilhausen connected on four 3-pointers.
Brayden Baumgartner had 18 points for Edgar.
Auburndale will play a Marawood crossover game at Phillips on Friday.
