Spencer girls basketball player Heavyn Kind has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com January High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award sponsors for the 2019-20 school year are Cost Cutters Family Hair Care of Marshfield, Stevens Point Orthopedics, and Burt Trophy & Awards. The monthly award will continue through June 2020, and the winner of the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced July 9.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Kind earned 606 of the 1,403 votes cast during voting from Feb. 1-7 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the January award were: Colby girls basketball player Emma Peavey, Pittsville boys basketball player Matthew Kissner, and Loyal boys basketball player Kole Bogdonovich.
Kind, a sophomore, scored in double figures in five of Spencer’s six games in January. She had a season-high 26 points in a win over Granton on Jan. 24, had 18 points against Colby on Jan. 9, and had 13 points, 12 rebounds and six steals in the Rockets’ victory over Athens on Jan. 27.

Kind joins Marshfield soccer and football player Kyle Tremelling (September), Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball player Meghan Kibbel (October), Auburndale cross country runner Erricka Zenner (November), and Spencer/Columbus Catholic wrestler Ashton Ackman (December) as winners of the Athlete of the Month award during the 2019-20 school year.
