MARSHFIELD – Ian Haugen and Sam Roherty scored in the second overtime period to bust open a scoreless game and lift Marshfield to a 2-0 win over D.C. Everest in a WIAA Division 1 boys soccer regional semifinal Tuesday afternoon at a snow-covered Heiting Community Stadium.

A snowstorm began just before game time at 2 p.m. and quickly changed the color of the artificial turf field from green to white.

The slippery conditions and soggy snow slowed down the game a bit and neither team was able to mount much of a charge as the score remained scoreless through the first 90 minutes, and then another 10 minutes in the first overtime period.

A little more than one minute into the second OT, Haugen was finally able to slip one through to get the Tigers on the scoreboard. Two minutes later, Roherty scored after a D.C. Everest penalty just in front of the goalie box to give Marshfield a cushion, one that held the remainder of the period.

Marshfield (5-5-2) moves on to a Division 1 regional final at unbeaten Wausau West (10-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday. The game will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com/live-sports.
