SPENCER – Eden Jacobson ran for 167 yards and three touchdown to lead the Spencer/Columbus Catholic football team to a 28-12 win over Wittenberg-Birnamwood in a Central Wisconsin Conference Large Division matchup Friday night at Spencer High School.

Max McGiveron added 115 yards and a touchdown for the Rockets, who piled up 409 yards on the ground and dominated the clock, running 62 plays to Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s 38, and outgaining the Chargers 440-213 overall.

Jacobson had touchdown runs of 73 and 29 yards in the first quarter to give the Rockets a 12-0 lead.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood rallied to tie the game, scoring in the final minute of the first quarter and with 1:12 left in the half, but SC was able to pitch a shutout in the second half.

McGiveron had an 11-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter and Jacobson finished off the scoring with a 4-yard TD in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.

“Proud of our guys tonight,” Spencer/Columbus coach Jason Gorst said. “They played a pretty complete game overall. We had much more balance in our running attack. We were able to play mistake-free football and keep the changes moving.

“Hats off to our lineman Sully Melander, Austin Grubofski, Cole Hanson, David Ellefson, Aiden Griepentrgo and Connor Luedtke. Chase Higgins had a great night setting the edge as a tight end. Dominic Post, Max McGiveron, and Will Gorst provided a nice compliment to Eden Jacobson tonight (at running back).”

Spencer/Columbus (3-2 overall and CWC Large) hosts Weyauwega-Fremont on Oct. 30 at Spencer High School.
