AMHERST – Eden Jacobson had a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns and what proved to be the game-winning two-point conversion run with 5½ minutes to go to give Spencer/Columbus a 30-29 win over previously undefeated Amherst in a Central Wisconsin Conference Large Division football game Friday night at Amherst High School.

Each team exchanged two touchdowns apiece in the second half.

Just 18 seconds after Amherst took a 29-22 lead on a 4-yard touchdown run by Landon Moe, Jacobson raced 70 yards for a score and plowed in the two-point conversion to give Spencer/Columbus a 30-29 lead with 5:37 remaining.

The Rockets were able to hold on from there, sending Amherst (6-1, 5-1 CWC Large) to its first loss of the season. Spencer/Columbus finishes the regular season with a 5-2 mark overall and in conference play. WIAA postseason assignments will be announced over the weekend.

Jacobson ran for 152 yards and caught five passes for 87 yards, and accounted for all four of the Rockets’ touchdowns.

Gage Stratman completed 10 of 12 passes for 136 yards, and Chase Higgins added three catches for 36 yards and a two-point conversion for SC.

“Tonight was a great win for the program,” Spencer/Columbus coach Jason Gorst said. “We are proud of the effort and determination. Eden (Jacobson) had another great night. Gage (Stratman) had a big game passing the ball, and Chase Higgins made some clutch catches.”
