Regis, Osseo-Fairchild win titles at Cloverbelt Conference Cross Country Meet

CADOTT – Eau Claire Regis had all five its runners finish in the top 13 to run away with the boys team championship Saturday at the Cloverbelt Conference Cross Country Meet, held at Whispering Springs Golf Course and hosted by Chippewa Falls McDonell.

Nick Wagner led the Ramblers with a second-place finish in 16:50.3, just three seconds behind individual champion Andrew Kaiser of Colby/Abbotsford.

Marshfield Columbus Catholic placed 14th and Spencer had an incomplete boys team.

Tyler Derfus was the only Dons’ runner to crack the 20-minute mark in the 5-kilometer race, finishing 37th in 19:01.1.

Spencer’s Dan Schubert was 55th in 19:52.8.

The Columbus Catholic girls took seventh in the team standings behind an eighth-place finish from Claire Pinter, who ran the 4K course in 16:45.5.

Haley Steig, a senior for Osseo-Fairchild, cruised to the girls individual title, finishing in 15;44.4, 35 seconds in front of second-place Casey Sprotte of Colby/Abbotsford. Steig led a group of three top-six and four top-12 finishers for O-F, which won the girls team title by 20 points over second-place Stanley-Boyd.

Spencer was 12th, with Jessica Ruhbusch taking 44th (18:42.6) and Macie Wienke finishing 45th (18:47.7).

Both Spencer and Marshfield Columbus will be competing at the WIAA Division 3 sectional meet at Erbach Park in Athens on Friday. The boys race starts at 4:15 p.m., with the girls to follow at 5 p.m.
