MARSHFIELD – Marshfield could not hold on to an early five-run lead and lost to Wausau 16-6 in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League game Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.

The Blue Devils have lost three games in a row after winning eight straight and fall to 8-6 overall. Wausau is now 10-8.

Chase Higgins and Carsten Jirschele had RBI singles, and Higgins scored on a groundout by Adam Zee to put Marshfield on top 3-0 in the first inning.

The Blue Devils added two more in the second on a two-run double by Chandler Schmidt, making it 5-0, but the game was turned upside down from there for Marshfield.

Wausau scored three times in the third and fifth innings, and plated five in both the fourth and sixth innings to build a double-digit lead.

Wes Schneider knocked in three runs, and Isaiah Piscitello, Evan Graff and Jacob Hamann each had RBIs for the Bulldogs.

Marshfield scored a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Schmidt, but the game ended due to the 10-run rule after a groundout finished off the inning.

Marshfield plays at Antigo for a WVLL game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
