Pittsville earns comeback win over Stratford volleyball

STRATFORD – Pittsville stormed back from a two-set deficit to upend Stratford 3-2 in a nonconference volleyball match Thursday at Stratford High School.

The Tigers won the first two sets 25-21, 25-19, before Pittsville won three straight by scores of 25-18m 25-18, 15-11, to earn the win.

Megan Wiese had nine kills, and Kalyn Schueller and Hailey Chapel each had eight to lead Stratford. Ally Zuleger had 25 assists and Chapel added 14 as well for the Tigers.

Sara Lacoursiere had 12 kills and 15 digs, Madisyn Schooley had nine kills, five blocks and three service aces, and Angel Millard had a 15 assists for Pittsville. Kaylee Jacobson led the Panthers with 18 digs and Reese Grimm added 13.

“We started a little slow but we stayed competitive, even in the first two games,” Pittsville coach Buff Heller said. “We cleaned up our side of the net and started forcing Stratford into more mistakes. It was a great win for our team.”

Both teams return to action Tuesday. Stratford will be at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in its first Marawood Conference South Division game of the season, and Pittsville will play at Rosholt in a nonconference match.
