Mosinee boys soccer player Toren Holtz has been voted as the MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports August High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award main sponsor for the 2021-22 school year is Awards ‘n’ More of Wisconsin Rapids. The monthly award will continue through June 2022, and the winner of the MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports High School Athlete of the Year will be announced in July.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Amherst, Athens, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Iola-Scandinavia, Loyal, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point, Wild Rose and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.
Holtz earned nearly 1,800 of the more than 4,200 votes cast during voting from Sept. 2-8 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the August award were: Marshfield volleyball player Reinya Balderson, Abbotsford football player Ty Falteisek, Colby cross country runner Daisy Feiten and Amherst football player Landon Moe.
Holtz started the season hot for Mosinee, which went 3-2 in August. He scored four times in a 5-1 victory over Clintonville on Aug. 26 and netted a hat trick in a loss to Northland Pines on Aug. 31, giving him 12 goals in the team’s first five games of the 2021 season.
