Stevens Point edges Marshfield in battle of WVC boys swimming leaders

MARSHFIELD – Two close races went in Stevens Point’s favor and the Panthers were able to edge Marshfield 89-81 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys swimming meet Thursday at Marshfield High School.

Will Gargulak won the 100 butterfly by 0.43 seconds and Stevens Point won the 200-yard freestyle relay by 0.17 seconds to provide the difference in the team score for the Panthers, who are now 6-0 in the WVC.

Konnor Pilger won the 200 freestyle (1:52.77) and the 500 freestyle (5:04.07), and Gargulak also won the 100 butterfly (57.28) to earn multiple wins for Stevens Point.

Kyle Berres was a double individual race winner for Marshfield (5-2 WVC), taking first in the 50 freestyle (23.62) and the 100 freestyle (51.80).

Marshfield’s other win came from the 400 freestyle relay team of Graham Lonsdale, Brayden Fischer, Henry Hilbelink and Berres (3:39.41).

Marshfield will compete at the Sheboygan South Invitational on Saturday.
