Auburndale boys basketball holds off Loyal

LOYAL – Auburndale used a big advantage at the free throw line to help hold off Loyal and win 46-39 in a nonconference boys basketball game Monday night at Loyal High School.

Auburndale shot just 32 percent (14-for-43) from the field and were just 1-for-15 from 3-point range, but were able to make 17 of 25 free throws and earn the close victory.

Alex Willfahrt had 14 points and Mason White Eagle added 13 for the Eagles who are now 12-8 this season.

Deegan Sandelier, Kaiden Hagen and Brandon Jacobi each scored nine points for Loyal (7-11).

Both teams return to conference play on Thursday. Loyal will play at Spencer in a Cloverbelt East contest, while Auburndale will travel to Athens for a Marawood Conference crossover.
