Columbus Catholic baseball routs Phillips in season opener

MAUSTON – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team opened its season with a resounding 16-5 win over Phillips on Friday at the Woodside Sports Complex.

Emmitt Konieczny allowed one walk and no hits in four innings to earn the pitching victory for the Dons, as he struck out nine. He also went 2-for-4 and scored three times.

Brock Bennington was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs, including a three-run inside-the-park home run, and Grant Olson added two hits and three RBIs for Columbus Catholic.

Columbus is scheduled to play Eau Claire Regis at 5:15 p.m. and Ladysmith at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Woodside Sports Complex.
