LOYAL – The Loyal/Greenwood softball team kept its perfect record in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division in tact with a doubleheader sweep over Marshfield Columbus Catholic in a pair of high-scoring games Tuesday at Loyal High School.
The Greenhounds won 14-9 and 17-9 to improve to 10-1 overall and remain unbeaten in the conference at 7-0. Columbus Catholic is now 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the Cloverbelt East as it had its three-game winning streak snapped.
Loyal/Greenwood scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out the victory in Game 1, and used a seven-run fourth inning to take control in the second game.
Cierra Dieringer had four hits, including three doubles, and scored twice in the first game for Columbus. Hailey Zimmermann and Autumn Vine both had two RBI for the Dons.
Aspen Hagen scored three runs and had two hits in the Game 1 win for the Greenhounds, who took advantage of eight walks and five errors.
In Game 2, Mesa Rasmussen and Zaida Brock each had three hits, with Rasmussen driving in the three runs and Brock two for L/G.
Loyal/Greenwood will play at Neillsville and Columbus Catholic will host Colby/Abbotsford in Cloverbelt East matches on Thursday.
