Columbus Catholic softball blasts Owen-Withee

MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic softball team pounded out 20 hits and took advantage of eight errors to defeat Owen-Withee 25-10 in a high-scoring Cloverbelt Conference East Division affair Monday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

After the two teams exchanged four runs in the first inning, Owen-Withee took a 9-4 lead in the second before the Dons erupted offensively, scoring eight times in the bottom of the second and 10 more times in the third.

Columbus Catholic finished off the game with three runs in the fourth, ending the game due to the 15-run rule.

Sam Casperson had four hits and six RBI, Hailey Zimmermann had four hits and four RBI, and Cierra Dieringer and Ryah Dieringer both added three hits and four runs scored in the victory.

Columbus Catholic is now 10-7 overall and 7-4 in the Cloverbelt East, with its final regular-season and conference game scheduled at Colby/Abbotsford on Tuesday.
