Columbus Catholic softball loses to Thorp in WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal

THORP – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic softball team’s season came to an end with an 11-5 loss to Thorp in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal Tuesday at Herzog Field.

Thorp (9-11), the No. 4 seed, moves on to a regional final at No. 1 seed Athens (14-5) on Thursday. Athens defeated Clear Lake 15-1 on Tuesday.

Columbus Catholic finishes the season with an 11-8 record.

Thorp led 5-1 after two innings before Columbus Catholic was able to cut it down to 5-4. The Cardinals responded with a four-run fourth to open their lead back up and cruised from there.

Akosua Yeboah went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and Cierra Dieringer also drove in two runs for the Dons.

Abby Schultze had four RBI and Elizabeth Frankwicz had three hits for Thorp.
