WESTON – The Marshfield Post 54 Senior Legion baseball team overcame a nine-run deficit to pull off an improbable 13-10 win over D.C. Everest in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League game Wednesday at Simon Field.
D.C. Everest pulled out to a 10-1 lead after an eight-run third inning chased Marshfield starter Jackson Ormond.
Cody Donahue and Isaac Zeps were able to slam the door the rest of the way for the Blue Devils, and the team’s offense did the rest.
Marshfield scored twice in the fifth inning and put up five runs in both the sixth and seven innings to pull off a mammoth comeback.
Logan Homolka had a sacrifice fly and Colton Schillinger had an RBI single in the fifth to start the comeback for Marshfield (6-4, 3-2 WVVL).
An RBI fielder’s choice by Cole Timmler started the rally in the sixth for the Blue Devils. Homolka fo,llowed with a two-run double and Zeps knocked in two with a single to make it 10-8.
Marshfield pulled ahead in the seventh after Zeps was able to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth.
Homolka smacked a grand slam home run to right field and Schillinger, who had walked, scored on a groundout by Zeps to give Marshfield a 13-10 lead.
Zeps allowed two baserunners in the bottom of the inning, but ended the game with a strikeout.
