Marshfield Senior Legion shuts out Green Bay Hornets

EAU CLAIRE – Carsten Jirschele tossed a three-hit shutout to lift the Marshfield Senior Legion baseball team to a 9-0 win over the Green Bay Hornets in its opening game at the Eau Claire Legion Baseball Tournament on Friday at Carson Park.

Jirschele struck out two and walked three in the victory in the five-inning game as Marshfield improves to 16-9 this season.

Marshfield had nine hits, five for extra bases. Riley Bauman hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, Cole Timmler knocked in another with a double and Jackson Ormond drove in a run with a single to give the Blue Devils a quick 4-0 lead.

Logan Homolka had an RBI triple in the second and scored on a groundout by Brock Bennington as Marshfield pushed its lead to 6-0.

Marshfield pushed across three more runs in the fourth as Ormond delivered a sacrifice fly and Bennett Lang walked with the bases loaded.

Marshfield will play Winona LeJetz (Minn.) and Eau Claire on Saturday as the three-day tournament continues.
