Plover uses big sixth inning to knock off Marshfield Senior Legion

PLOVER – Plover scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a two-run deficit and defeat Marshfield 4-2 in American Legion baseball action Monday at Memorial Park.

Marshfield led 2-0 after Ben Dietsche scored on a passed ball in the fourth inning and Cody Donahue knocked in Riley Bauman with a single in the top of the sixth.

Marshfield starter Nick Urban was cruising along, allowing just two hits through five innings before Black Sox knocked in out of the game in the sixth.

After two walks and a passed ball, Landon Moe drove in Plover’s first run on a sacrifice fly. Bryce Ehr added a two-run single, and Kaden Thauer scored after stealing third on coming home on Marshfield’s second error of the inning, putting the Black Sox up 4-2.

Marshfield was sent down in order in the seventh by Plover pitcher Ben Fonti, who earned the win with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.

Dietsche finished 2-for-3 for Marshfield, which had six hits in the loss.

Plover moves ahead of Marshfield into second place in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League at 8-3 (21-9 overall), while Marshfield falls to 8-4 (18-10 overall).

Marshfield plays at Stevens Point on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Bukolt Park. The two teams will play on Thursday in Marshfield to finish their respective WVLL schedules.
