WAUSAU – The Marshfield volleyball team clinched its third-straight Wisconsin Valley Conference championship by sweeping three matches at the second WVC Meet of the season Saturday at Wausau East High School.

The Tigers beat Wausau West 25-9, 25-17, 25-19; D.C. Everest 25-19, 25-12, 25-20; and Stevens Point 25-13, 25-16, 25-15, to run their conference record to a perfect 10-0.

Caitlyn Pernsteiner had 28 kills, Elise Uphoff and Grace Taylor each had 30 digs, and Reinya Balderson had 84 assists in Marshfield’s three matches.

Abby Ongna added 28 kills, 22 digs and four aces, Taylor had seven blocks and six aces, and Lauren Homolka had 22 kills and seven blocks for the Tigers, who are 31-3 overall this season.

“I am so incredibly proud of how our team performed today,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “I don’t know if anyone realizes how hard it is to go and play three best 3 out of 5 conference matches in a row. You need to not only be physically tough, but mentally tough as well to win all three matches in three-set sweeps. This team is special, and Coach Knecht and I are honored to coach them.”

Marshfield will finish its regular-season and conference schedule with a home match against Merrill on Tuesday and at Wausau East on Thursday.
