MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield wrestling team won six matches by pin and two more by majority decision to beat Mosinee 53-21 in its season-opener Thursday at Marshfield High School.

Daniel Barton (135 pounds) and Torin Boernke (140) started the match with pins and Josh Shupe added a 14-7 win at 145 to get the Tigers off to a good start.

Following a win by Mosinee, the Tigers’ Brad Dolezal (160) and Justin Sternweis (171) won by major decision and Robert Wille (189), Ben Wartella (215) and Cody Cheek (285) earned pins as Marshfield wrapped up the match.

Toran Nieman (119) also had a pin for the Tigers.

“I am very excited for the upcoming season,” Marshfield coach Don Lang said. “I saw a lot of good things tonight from the top-down. It was nice to get the first meet jitters out of the way.

“I think some of the guys were a little nervous coming in, but things worked out for us tonight. It was good to see us keep guys on their back and get the pin.”

Marshfield will compete at the Campbellsport Invitational on Saturday and will open its Wisconsin Valley Conference schedule on Dec. 9 at home against Wausau West.
