Columbus Catholic boys basketball can’t overcome slow start, falls at Neillsville

NEILLSVILLE – Neillsville opened up a 14-point lead by halftime, limiting Columbus Catholic to just 17 points over the first 18 minutes, and held on for a 57-42 win in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball game Thursday at Neillsville High School.

Blake Jakobi had 16 points and Emmitt Konieczny added 11 for the Dons, who fall to 11-6 overall and 6-2 in the Cloverbelt East.

Andrew Hoeser made four of Neillsville’s 10 3-pointers in the game and finished with a game-high 17 points for the Warrors (10-5, 6-3 Cloverbelt East).

Neillsville hosts Stratford for a nonconference game Saturday before both teams will be at home for Cloverbelt East contests on Tuesday as the Warriors play Loyal and Columbus Catholic takes on first-place Owen-Withee.
