Columbus Catholic baseball blanks Gilman behind Payant’s no-hitter

MARSHFIELD – Charles Payant tossed a five-inning no-hitter and the Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team scored five times in the first inning to roll to a 10-0 win over Gilman in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday at Hackman Field.

Payant struck out 11 and walked just one for the Dons (1-4, 1-2 Cloverbelt East).

The Dons added single runs in the second and third innings and put the game away with a three-run fifth to end it via the 10-run rule.

Matthias Gouin went 3-for-4 and Payant, Noah Taylor and Billy Young each had two RBIs for Columbus.

Columbus will be at Spencer on Friday.
