MARATHON – One of the better seasons in recent memory for the Stratford girls volleyball team came to an end Thursday night with a 3-1 loss to Athens in a WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinal at Marathon High School.
Athens won 25-23, 25-14, 23-25, 25-23, to move on to a sectional final against Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Saturday night at Auburndale High School.
Stratford finished second in the Marawood Conference South Division and reached sectionals after capturing the regional title last Saturday with a win over Marathon.
