WAVERLY, Iowa – Marshfield High School graduate Amanda Whipple wrapped up her sophomore season for the St. Norbert College women’s cross country team by placing 147th out of 280 runners at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Nov. 20.

Whipple, just the fourth St. Norbert woman to ever qualify for the NCAA Division III meet, finished the 6-kilometer course in a time of 22:47.98, the second-best time of her career.

Whipple’s teammate, Jenny Scherer, placed third in the race, finishing in 21:08.9. Scherer, a four-time national qualifier, had the first top-three finish for a Midwest Conference runner at the meet since 1996.

Whipple will participate on the Green Knights’ track and field team this spring. She finished second in both the 5K and 10K races at the Midwest Conference Championships last year as a freshman. The track team has meets at UW-Whitewater on Jan. 15, Indiana University on Jan. 22-23 and UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 30 to start a string of seven straight Saturdays with competitions across the Midwest.
