UW-Marshfield’s Paige Albrecht named WCC women’s player of the year

MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County freshman Paige Albrecht has been named the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference women’s basketball player of the year.

Albrecht, a Marshfield Columbus Catholic High School graduate, averaged 23 points, 4.3 steals and 3.5 assists per game this season for Marauders.

Albrecht was the only Marauders women’s player named to the All-WCC team.

The UW-Marshfield men’s team had three all-conference picks, led by sophomore Trevor Gorman and freshman Jake Scheppler, who were first-team all-WCC selections.

Gorman, a Marshfield Columbus graduate, averaged 17.4 points and 3.8 assists a game for the Marauders.

Scheppler, a 2010 Marshfield High School graduate, averaged 17.5 points and 9.9 rebounds a game.

Marshfield Columbus Catholic graduate Brandon DeSmet was named to the second team for the Marauders. He averaged 13 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists a game this season.
