MARSHFIELD – Megan Pehlke dished out a complete-game, one-hit shutout to lead Merrill to a 4-0 win over Marshfield in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Thursday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Bri Lamonica had an RBI single in the fourth inning to give the Bluejays the lead, then Merrill plated three runs in the fifth thanks to two Marshfield errors.

The Tigers couldn’t muster any offense against Pehlke, who struck out three and walked three.

“It was an evenly matched game and the errors in that one inning hurt us,” Marshfield coach Mike Voss said. “After that the girls kind of lost confidence both with the bats and the gloves.”

Rhiannon Baierl took the loss for Marshfield, giving up five hits while striking out three.

Marshfield (1-2, 0-2 WVC) is scheduled to host its annual tournament on Saturday against La Crosse Logan, Medford and Tomahawk. Games begin at 10 a.m.
