Stratford boys rout Edgar on the road

EDGAR – The Stratford High School boys basketball team climbed into a fourth-place tie in the Marawood Conference South Division after crushing Edgar 59-40 on Thursday at Edgar High School.

The win is the Tigers’ third straight and improves their record to 11-8 overall and 6-6 in conference play, which pushes them into a tie for fourth with Edgar. Stratford is 6-2 in its last eight games after starting the season 5-6.

Stratford trailed 11-8 after one quarter, then bolted ahead with a 22-8 run in the second quarter to take the lead for good. The Tigers outscored Edgar 29-21 in the second half.

Chris Newburry had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Tigers in both categories. He made three 3-pointers and hit 5 of 7 free throws.

Jordan Sinz led Edgar with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Stratford closes its Marawood South schedule with home games against Wausau Newman on Tuesday and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Feb. 19.
