Columbus girls, Stratford boys win at track triangular

STRATFORD – Elizabeth Manlick won the 200 meters and the long jump, and was part of the winning 400-meter relay team to help the Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls track and field team to a victory at the Stratford Triangular on Monday at Tiger Stadium.

Manlick won the 200 in 29.9 seconds and the long jump with leap of 14 feet, 3 ½ inches. The 400 relay team of Lindsey Brandt, Abby Gotz, Mariah Heiman and Manlick won in 54.9 seconds.

Steve Wenzel won three events – the 800 (2:10.2), 1,600 (4:41.4) and 3,200 (11:18.16), and Austin Cole took first in the shot put (43-1/2) and discus (105-4) to lead the Stratford boys to the team title.

The Columbus Catholic girls finished with 124 points, Stratford had 106 and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption had 26.

Stratford dominated the boys standings with 129 points. Columbus had 76 and Assumption 38.

Sarah Brandt won two events for the Dons girls (1,600 and 3,200), and Lindsey Brandt, Gotz and Heiman teamed with Kayla Selz to win the 800 relay.

Paige Albrecht won the 800 and was part of the winning 3,200 relay team, along with Nikki Hertel, Claire Pinter and Riley Roehl for Columbus.

The Dons other two individual first-place finishes came from Heiman in the 100 (13.5) and Kayla Selz in the triple jump (28-1).

Stratford had six individual first-place finishes, including Karissa Kaiser winning the 400 (1:04.2) and high jump (5-0).

Dylan Kell won the 200 (24.2), Ben Robers took first in the pole vault (13-6) and Jake Guyer won the 110 hurdles (21.2) for the Tigers boys other first-place finishes.

Stratford also won the 800 and 3,200 relays.

The Columbus boys got individual titles from Dodge Langreck in the 100 (12.0), Matt Gotz in the 300 hurdles (43.8) and Logan Reigel in the triple jump (36-8 ¾).

Reigel and Austin Mahoney were both part of the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams. Bom Koh and Greg Wunrow were also on the 400 team, and Langreck and Gotz were on the 1,600 team.

Both teams return action on April 27. Columbus will be at the Wood County Meet at Pittsville, while Stratford will participate in the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Invitational.
