Spencer girls basketball needs double overtime to beat Greenwood

SPENCER – Spencer came back from an eight-point halftime deficit and needed two overtimes before finally beating Greenwood 51-48 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Friday night at Spencer High School.

The Rockets trailed 23-15 at the half before using a 16-5 third quarter to take a three-point lead. Greenwood was able to tie the game up at the end of the regulation and the Rockets used a 6-3 run in the second overtime to win and improve to 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the conference. Greenwood falls to 6-6 and 3-5 in the Cloverbelt East.

Kyleigh Hebert scored 12 points, Tara Matter added 11 and Krystal Weier had 10 for the Rockets. Overall, Spencer was just 10 of 23 from the free throw line, but Hebert made 6 of 9 to help the Rockets in the victory.

Kelsey Kirn had 25 points and seven rebounds for Greenwood.

Spencer hosts first-place Neillsville on Thursday.
