Fourth quarter dooms Spencer boys basketball in loss to Owen-Withee

SPENCER – Owen-Withee pulled away from Spencer in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Rockets 16-7 to win a Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball game 56-50 on Thursday night at Spencer High School.

In a tight game throughout, Spencer led 29-27 at halftime and 43-40 after three quarters only to see the Blackhawks run past them in the fourth.

Steven Esker had 17 points and Albert Goerlitz had 15 points and seven rebounds for Owen-Withee, which improves to 7-7 and 6-5 in the Cloverbelt East.

Steven Gilboy (20 points), Sam Cattanach (19 points) and Jeremiah Cattanach (eight points) combined for all but three points of Spencer’s scoring.

Gilboy added five rebounds and four assists, Sam Cattanach had a game-high eight rebounds and Jeremiah Cattanach hit two of the Rockets’ three 3-pointers as they made just 3 of 18 from behind the arc.

Spencer (7-7, 5-7 Cloverbelt East) plays at Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Tuesday.
