Columbus Catholic boys basketball whips Granton, stays in Cloverbelt East title chase

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic stayed in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division championship race with a 66-29 pounding of winless Granton on Friday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Tyler Derfus scored 14 points, Alex Larson added 13 and Brandon Nikolai had 11 for the Dons, who had 11 different players enter the scoring column.

Columbus improves to 16-4 and 14-3 in the Cloverbelt East, remaining one game behind first-place Augusta and in a tie for second with Colby. Colby plays at Augusta on Monday, while the Dons host Greenwood on the final night of conference play.

Columbus jumped out to a 28-4 lead after the first quarter to put the game away early.

Granton falls to 0-19 and 0-17 in the conference.
