Spencer overcomes slow start to blow out Colby

SPENCER – Courtney Schulz scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Deanna Szybowicz had 14 points to lead the Spencer girls basketball team to a come-from-behind 65-36 win over Colby in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday night at Spencer High School.

The Rockets (14-5, 10-4 Cloverbelt East) found themselves down 11-10 after the first quarter, then blew the doors off Colby, outscoring the Hornets 15-4 in the second quarter and 41-20 in the second half.

Schulz hit 8 of 14 shots from the field and 5 of 7 free throws to power Spencer to the victory.

Stacey Baumgartner added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Rockets.

Spencer is off until next Friday, Feb. 26, when it takes on Greenwood.
