STRATFORD – The Stratford girls basketball team had its third straight win in sight, but then Edgar woke up.

The Wildcats outscored Stratford 21-5 in the fourth quarter to overcome an eight-point deficit and beat the Tigers 55-47 in a Marawood Conference South Division game on Thursday at Stratford High School.

Stratford led 23-15 at halftime and 42-34 going into the fourth quarter before the Wildcats exploded with nine baskets, including two 3-pointers by Meghan Heidmann, in the final 8 minutes.

Heidmann hit three from long distance in all and finished with a team-high 13 points.

Keri Doll led the Tigers (5-14, 2-10 Marawood South) with 14 points. Hannah Schmitt added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams struggled shooting, with Stratford hitting only 29 percent of its shots (16 of 55) and Edgar making 35 percent (22 of 70).

Stratford was helped by four first-half 3-pointers – two by Sara Griesbach in the first quarter and two by Doll in the second quarter – as it built its lead.

The Tigers close out their Marawood schedule next week with road games against the top-two teams in the South Division standings – Wausau Newman on Tuesday and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Thursday.
