Auburndale junior Austin Hawkins was named to the all-state Division 4 first team as the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association announced its boys basketball all-state squads last week at the WIAA state tournament.
Hawkins was a unanimous pick to the 10-player Division 4 team after averaging 18.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season for Auburndale, which finished 22-2 after losing a WIAA Division 4 regional final to Amherst.
Hawkins, the Marawood Conference South Division player of the year, helped the Apaches to their second straight South Division championship.
Stratford senior Derek Austin was an honorable mention choice on the Division 4 team. He averaged 16 points per game this season in helping the Tigers to a 20-5 record and a sectional semifinal appearance. The Tigers finished second behind Auburndale in the Marawood South.
Sheboygan Lutheran’s Sam Dekker, a unanimous first-team pick on the Division 5 team, was named Mr. Basketball as the state’s player of the year.
Dekker averaged a state-best 33 points per game and scored 40 points to lift Sheboygan Lutheran to a win in the Division 5 state championship game on Saturday. Dekker will be playing collegiately at the University of Wisconsin.
