Columbus Catholic baseball whips Granton for third straight win

MARSHFIELD – Mike Iwanski had three hits, Charlie Mayeux drove in three runs and Kienan McIntee struck out 11 to lead the Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team to its third straight win, a 14-4 victory over Granton in Cloverbelt Conference East Division action Friday.

Granton led 4-0 after 1½ innings before the Dons exploded with three runs in the bottom of the second and six more in the third to open up a 9-4 advantage. Columbus finished off the victory with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Iwanski was 3-for-4 with a double, Mayeux smacked a home run and drove in three, and Pat Sullivan was 2-for-3 for the Dons, who had 12 hits in all. Alex Larson also had a homer for the Dons.

McIntee earned the win, striking out 11 and walking one after relieving Bryce DeSmet.

The Dons improve to 8-11 and 8-9 in the conference, and finish their regular-season schedule Monday at Owen-Withee.
